The Trustees of MCWFT were disappointed to receive confirmation of GDF Suez’s decision to abandon plans to build their 130MW wind farm on Eishken, thereby ending recent rumours and speculation in that regard.
Trustees having now met with representitives from GDF believe that the continued delay and uncertainty over the timing and cost of a sub sea grid connection to the Western Isles has played a significant part in influencing the Company’s decision.
However,Trustees have been reassured that the contracts in place between the Wind Farm Developer and the Community Trust will be honoured thereby safeguarding the Trust’s entitlement to the monies due under the contractual agreements involved.
The MCWFT will continue to operate and the Trustees aim to keep members informed of developments, hopefully as the situation regarding the future may become clearer in the coming weeks.
In the meantime non members resident in the Trust area are invited to seek membership of the Trust in order to be kept informed and become eligible to participate in the activities of the Trust.
